Burma has a rich history dating back before recorded history. After the war, in 1947, the main political figure in Burma was assassinated and the country was declared a free nation in January of 1948; sixty-two years after the British gained control, precisely the amount of time it took for them to conquer the country. After becoming a free country, Burma didn’t follow most other countries and join the commonwealth, instead they chose a democratic government which ended in 1962 and preceded the current dictatorship in which they are ruled today.
